This theme highlights the challenge of balancing daily crises with long-term goals for equitable, effective, and inclusive special education services. How do you navigate staffing shortages, due process complaints, budget cuts, and transportation issues while advancing your district’s mission? Can staffing shortages inspire new staffing models? Do due process complaints reveal areas for systemic improvement? Can budget cuts be leveraged to advocate for more inclusive practices? Can transportation challenges lead to better student training?
It also considers potential shifts with changes in the federal administration. Is your district prepared to maintain its commitment to equity and inclusion, regardless of policy changes? If IDEA regulations on disproportionality are removed, will your district continue addressing these disparities? How will you ensure special education services for undocumented students?
